By far, the absolute worst part about being a drum By far, the absolute worst part about being a drummer is packing/unpacking all your gear back into your practice space. After playing the Food Truck Rally last week, I was dead tired and didn’t even drag my gear down the stairs until the next day. There, my drums sat in their cases for another five days until I finally made the time to set things back up.

It’s not all bad, though. I had a lot on my mind tonight, filled with strong and complex feelings. Setting up my kit was extremely therapeutic and meditative. There’s something to be said about creating a space for art to take place. The only downside is that as late as I unpacked, I’ll have to wait until tomorrow before I can play these again.

We finished our final phase of Balderramas Back Ea We finished our final phase of Balderramas Back East: a whirlwind two days in Washington, DC! We were lucky enough to tour the US Capitol and the White House, as well as see the monuments at night. We had an amazing time!
*Note: I asked my kids to do a lot those two days, walking over 8 miles in the sweltering heat. Clara was old enough to put it all in perspective, but like most 7-year-olds, Mari hasn’t developed that skill - hence her expressions in pictures. I’m proud of everything they accomplished these last few days and just how awesome they were on my first major trip as a single parent. After two weeks, we’re ready to be home.
