Back from Roswell

Although I’ve posted since I’ve returned, I wanted to share pictures from a weekend trip to Roswell, NM.  My family and I went down there for my cousin Andrea’s wedding.  While the trip there and back were long ones, it was great to go down there.  I hadn’t been to southern New Mexico since 2003.  Before then, we made trips down to my grandparents home every summer.  While we didn’t go all the way down to Carlsbad (where my grandparents lived before they passed away), Roswell still brought back some memories.

My cousin’s wedding was great as well, congrats to both Andrea and Paul!  I took a ton of pictures while down there and have posted them to Flickr.

Only on Craigslist…

Only on Craiglist can you find someone who actually would write this ad:

need a laptop for travel and family communication. I have to travel quite a bit and miss my family. We have a laptop but its the only one we have and can’t afford a 2nd. My family use it as home cpu. I can give you a tax deductable reciept for the value of it for tax credit. I need one that has wireless internet reception and able to connect usb’s and plenty of memory.

Where do you even begin with this one?  I don’t mean to sound insensitive, but if if you already have a laptop, wouldn’t you be better off getting a dirt-cheap desktop system for your family and take that laptop?  Also a tax-deductible receipt – as if that doesn’t smell like fraud (“deductible” spelled wrong no less).

Also asking for a free handout, but it has to have Wi-Fi and plenty of memory.  Give me a break!

Back from another hiatus

Sorry about the lack of posts over the last 11 days or so.  The busy-ness of summer caught up with me again and I ended up far away from blogging.  Work has picked up over the latter-half of the summer, and I’ve been starting my day far earlier than I’m used to – going to bed much earlier as well.  I’m used to being a night-owl, and now typically get to bed before 11pm (although thanks to the Olympics I’m staying up late tonight).  I also had some great weekends trying to unwind and relax.  Last weekend we went up to South Park and had an awesome time, but the only Internet I had was 2 bars worth on the slow-speed cell phone.

I’ll work on posting some of my random ramblings, which have not been in short supply.

Missing Fake Steve, but loving Real Dan

One of my favorite blogs that I always made a point to read was that of “Fake Steve Jobs”. The offered a hilariously satirical view on the tech industry: Apple, Microsoft, Yahoo and everything in between.  When Fake Steve was unmasked in August of 2007, Dan Lyons went on blogging under the Fake Steve pen-name, cranking out hilarious entries.  For reasons beyond my understanding, Lyons has abandoned the Fake Steve persona and went on to blog under his real name.  This week he debuted his “Real Dan” Blog, and the quality hasn’t skipped a beat. It’s definitely worth checking out, especially if you want a different view of the tech industry.
