Hitting the road (aka I’m screwed with school)
The official word has come in that I’m going to be doing some traveling in February for work. In my role I normally don’t travel for work, but it this looks like it’s going to be a great opportunity. Working on a virtual team, I always love an opportunity for a face-to-face with my teammates.
However, there’s a pretty big wrench thrown in – I’ll be traveling for two weeks. Worse yet, this trip is going to be back-to-back with my LA Congress trip I previously scheduled. I’m going to be out of town for 2 straight weeks.
Normally that wouldn’t be a big deal, but this absence is going to deal a crippling blow to my class schedule. Missing four class sessions in a semester is always a bad thing, and it becomes worse when they’re consecutive absences.
I’m trying to be proactive about this, and hopefully that will pay off. Right now I’m emailing my instructors with hopes that they’ll have enough advanced notice to accommodate this situation. The other advantage is that I’m traveling to Atlanta, so it’s not like I’ll have an abundance of activity at night. I’ll probably be able to devote 3-4 hours to homework each night, plus an entire weekend to play catch-up.
Right now it’s a bit nerve-racking. This is an exciting opportunity, but it couldn’t come at a worse time.
24’s Sutherland Mutilates Bauer Figure Prototype
It looks like 24 action figures are in the works, but one of the models won’t be released as hoped. It seems Keifer Sutherland was sent an advanced version of one of the 24 figures and decided to bring it out for a little partying. The end result? Well let’s just say he went “Jack Bauer” + “Chinese capture” on it. Too bad he didn’t realize it was a prototype. Check out the story – it made me laugh out loud in my cube.

Bluetooth Headset withdrawals… freakin Buy.com
Back on January 4, I ranted about the bad experience I had with the Plantronics Discovery 640E Bluetooth Headset that I purchased off Buy.com. I actually received the item back on January 3rd, and the evening of the 3rd submitted a Return request (RMA). I promptly printed it out, boxed the item and on Thursday I couldn’t get that in the mail fast enough. I got a nice tracking number that told me that Buy.com received the item on January 9th. However, here I am on the 24th and my status still shows “RMA Issued”, which indicates that the item has not been received or processed. I sent an email off to Buy.com last week and was told by one of their agents that RMA’s can take 5-7 business days to process (which at the time I was still within that window). However, now over a week later I am losing my patience. I fired off another email to Buy.com support, so we’ll see where things go.
So why am I ranting? Because I really just miss my Voyager 510, and am going through Bluetooth withdrawals. Ugh.. Thanks for nothing Plantronics. Thanks for nothing Buy.com.
DVR’s make "must see Monday’s" manageable
With the spring TV season in full swing, Monday has definitely become the night of “must see” shows. The trouble is, my two favorite shows, Heroes and 24, are both on at the same time! A year ago when I had the Series 2 Tivo, I would have been in trouble and frantically would have been plugging in the VCR to the bedroom TV. However, for once I can say that I’m glad I had that Comcast DVR with the dual tuner, allowing me to record both shows at the same time. Now it’s a simple matter of plopping in front of the couch for 3 hours straight (for Heroes, 24, and Studio 60). Ugh, too much TV!
It’ll be interesting to see how NBC and Fox will battle for viewers for both of these shows. I have a hunch that many of Heroes viewers are also rabid 24-lovers as well.
